Visit Taliesin West, Summer Tours June-August. Frank Lloyd Wright began building this desert masterpiece in 1937 as his personal winter home, studio, and architectural campus. Located on the beautiful Sonoran desert in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains in northeast Scottsdale, the site offers Summer Tours (June-August) including “Night Lights and the Desert Tour” on Fri, Sat and Mon evenings, and an “Architecture Discovery Tour” for families with school-age children, offered daily. Desert Botanical Garden, Flashlight Tours, through Aug 28. Desert Botanical Garden has the world’s largest collection of desert plants in a natural setting. This exquisite garden features thousands of thriving desert plants and wildflowers set throughout five thematic trails with more than 60 interactive exhibits. Greater Phoenix Greek Festival, Oct 8-10. This year’s Festival includes a superb full-scale authentic dinner menu, al la carte meals, delicious pastries, an extensive line of imported groceries, live entertainment, Greek beer and wine, a variety of vendors to choose from, jewelers, music, novelty items, and more... plenty of parking with shuttles available. 23rd Annual Cowboy Poets Gathering at Yavapai College, Aug 13-14. One of the best gatherings of Cowboy Poets in the country, this event strives to preserve the culture and heritage of the American West.
