. Learn about Fr. John O’Sullivan, the Great Restorer of the Mission, Capistrano’s Cliff Swallows, and Famous Stories of San Juan Capistrano. Event is included in the price of admission. Hours: 10:30-11:30 am.

Our Land, Our People, Our Mission exhibition, through Sep 29. A display of art curated by Villas & Verandas Fine Art Gallery in San Juan Capistrano, featuring oil paintings of California’s landscape and history, including Mission images.

Music Under the Stars, Jul 5, 19,

. The series of six
concerts is held on alternating Saturday evenings, Jun 21-Aug 30, and features dining and dancing to live music in the beautiful Mission courtyard. All concerts 6:30-9:30pm; gates open at 5:30pm. Concerts include:

Night at the Mission, Jun 13-14,
Jul 25-26 and Aug 8-9
. This new overnight summertime family camping program offers three weekends where families may camp on the historic Mission grounds, beginning at 6pm Friday and ending Saturday at 8:30am. Visitors can enjoy adobe brick making and rope making, and children and their parents will take an after-hours flashlight tour of the grounds. There is also a scavenger hunt, historic games, campfire story-telling and sleeping out under the stars. Cost is $65 per person, or $50 each for families of four or more.

BB King and Pat Benatar, Jul 11
. King and Benatar perform as part of the Lexus Summer Concert Series at the Pacific Amphitheatre. King is as recognizable by his signature guitar sound and his string of classics including “Rock Me Baby” and “The Thrill Is Gone.” Leon Russell and Mavis Staples also perform. Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo are known classic anthems such as “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Heartbreaker,” and “Love Is A Battlefield.” On Aug 1 at 7:30pm, the four-time Grammy Award winner performs with Berlin and Patti Smyth & Scandal.
Concert tickets include free OC Fair admission. Gates open 90 minutes before show time. Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to avoid traffic and parking delays.

The 2008 Orange County Fair, Jul 11-Aug 3 is held at the Orange County Fair and Event Center, 88 Fair Drive. The Fair will be closed on Mondays.

Disney’s High School Musical, Jul 17-22
. This popular play is based on the 2006 Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel Original Movie. The touring company includes a live orchestra and a cast of 34 professional performers.

Whitey Harrison Classic Outrigger Race, Aug 16
. Outrigger paddlers from all over California compete in this long-distance roundtrip race from Dana Point to Laguna Beach. Cheer them on as they head out to the wild, open ocean to test all their months of training.

24th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, Sep 20. Volunteers gather in places all over the world to remove trash from the oceans, beaches, watersheds and beyond. Doheny focuses on the beach and San Juan Creek. Hours: 9am-noon. Doheny provides everything, including snacks and water.

Pageant of the Masters - All The World’s A Stage, Jul 9-Aug 30. Civil War Days, Aug 30-31. Civil War Days is a free event featuring live weapons demonstrations, living histories and battle reenactments. All refreshment proceeds benefit the Huntington Beach Historical Society. On Saturday come check out the special twilight concert following the 2nd battle at 4pm. Church services will also be held on Sunday at 8am. Please note that times are approximate and bringing dogs is not recommended due to loud noises during shows.
