RENO/TAHOE
TERRITORY
A narrow strip along the western border that extends from Oregon
south past Gardnerville and east past Pyramid Lake is famous for
magnificient Sierra Nevada views, golf, skiing, and entertainment
at Reno, Sparks, Lake Tahoe, and Carson City.
COWBOY
COUNTRY
Far northern Nevada from the Oregon and Idaho borders to a few miles
south of Lovelock is the new Wild West, known for the Humboldt River,
Ruby Mountains, Interstate 80, the National Basque Festival, and
of course, cowboys. The citites of Winnemucca, Battle Mountain,
Elko, Wells and Wendover are in this territory.
PONY
EXPRESS TERRITORY
Nevada's mid-section is an open-air museum of natural history and
western Americana that includes Highway 50, The Loneliest Highway
in America, between Austin and Eureka; the cities of Fernley, Fallon,
and Ely, plus Great Basin National Park.
PIONEER
TERRITORY
Covers most of the southern half of the state, including Hawthorne,
Walker Lake, the eastern end of Death Valley National Park, Tonopah,
Goldfield, Beatty, Pioche, Pahrump, and Caliente.
LAS
VEGAS TERRIT0RY
The dazzling southern tip of Nevada includes Las Vegas, Lake Mead,
North Las Vegas, Laughlin, Boulder City, Henderson, Jean, Primm,
Searchlight, Overton and Mesquite.
INDIAN
All of Nevada is Indian Territory, and many Nevada Indians still
occupy their native lands. The Paiute and Shoshone have reservations
scattered over wide areas of the state and the Washo has colonies
in the Reno and Carson Valley areas.
