Timing Is Everything

Night closed in around the RV. We were snuggled into our bed, deep into the kind of sleep that comes from knowing that there’s no work to be done, no phone calls to be returned and no household chores to be completed for the next several days. So of course the dog was restless. 

We had been camping our way down the California coast, staying a few nights at each stop and the next one was to be at an epic and difficult-to-get-into campground perched at the edge of the Pacific. 

I knew that getting into that facility in summer would be tough, so I had formulated an excellent plan of action. They did not accept reservations, so all sites were on a first come, first served basis. To get in, prospective campers needed to show up early, wait for camp call at eleven, and either get a spot, or...
